This article’s aim is to present the theme of the Brazilian art, from the contemporaneous critiques in the circuit of the artistic production to the synthesis proposed by the modernists through the category of brasilidade, with all their posterior variants, which approximated it to the civisme. Therefore, it is convenient to discuss once again the question of the national identity of the plastic arts, according to another point of view announced by the contemporaneous plastic artists.
