A B S T R A C T
The aim of this article is to discuss if the criminal processes allow to think the city of Rio de Janeiro as a violent city in the beginnings of the twentieth century. The author points out the identity of the individuals involved in those varied circumstances of violence and exposes the multiplicity of methods and themes that the criminal archives may offer to the researchers of the recent history of Brazil.
